About SMART

I'm Helen — founder of SMART. After thirty years leading sales teams, I stepped back to build the tools I always wished I'd had: interactive planners and guides for founders and leaders who refuse to drift.

Some of those tools are personal — for planning your week, your money, your wellbeing. Some are commercial — drawn straight from three decades on the front line of sales, for the people who carry a number. And some teach the skill that's reshaping all of it: working well with AI. Different tools, one principle: clarity first, action second.

The commercial range has grown its own family of premium automotive-retail playbooks — a set of six now, one for every seat that runs a franchised site: The Head of Business, Aftersales Manager, Used Car Manager, LBDM Field Operator, the Automotive KPI Playbook and Customer Excellence. Written from the chair and the ramp, not the classroom.

They start where I believe leadership starts: with people. Over thirty years on the floor I learned that the numbers follow the culture, never the other way round — that you can hand someone the sharpest process in the group and it will still fall flat if the people aren't with you, if they don't trust you, can't see where you're taking them, or don't understand what you stand for. So while these are genuinely practical tools — the systems, the KPIs, the disciplines that run a site — every one of them is built on the same foundation: psychological safety, emotional intelligence, and the care of bringing people with you. Lead the people well, through a clear chain of values, safety, process and accountability, and the results arrive at the end as a consequence, not a target.

Because that's the truth underneath all of it: the tools matter, but the people come first — and the leaders who remember that are the ones the numbers eventually reward. If you want the story behind why they exist, it's here: Nobody gave me a manual →

Two things have joined the range more recently, and both come from the same place. The SMART Tracker is the piece the planners were always pointing at — where a planner is a page you fill once, the Tracker comes back every week, holds your numbers, shows your trend, and closes each check-in with one honest reflection. It's the accountability layer, not another document.

And Build Your Own AI Playbook is the one I didn't expect to write. Everyone is being told to use AI to draft their emails. Almost nobody is teaching the thing that actually matters: how to turn what you already know — thirty years of it, in my case — into a working tool that stands on its own. So I wrote down how I did it. Not the theory. The build, the scars, and the rules that stop them happening twice.

A Framework for Founders and Leaders

We started with a simple observation: founders and executives are drowning in tools but starving for clarity. We built SMART Productivity Planners to solve that—interactive tools that force you to think, decide, and execute with intention.

But we kept hearing the same question: "How do I think about AI? How do I stay ahead without being reckless?" We realised the real bottleneck wasn't planning anymore—it was literacy. So we expanded.

SMART AI was born from that gap. We completed eleven Anthropic Academy certifications in AI fluency and built a free foundational library: a plain-language glossary, guides on how AI tools differ and the art of the conversation, the 4Ds framework, and a hands-on Practice & Reflection Companion—plus applied worked examples that turn the data you already have into decisions you can stand behind. Now leaders can build AI literacy into their teams before they build AI into their workflows.

Today, SMART is four things: the planners that force clarity, SMART AI (the 4Ds framework), SMART Business (commercial tools for people who carry a number), and DealPace (accountability for sales). Everything starts with the same question: Will this help you execute with intention?

Plan with intention. Execute with precision.

SMART Business

Practical commercial tools for account managers, sales leads and founders—the people who carry a number. Above these sits a premium automotive tier—deeper, sector-specific tools drawn straight from the dealership floor: the Head of Business Playbook for the person in the chair, the Automotive KPI Playbook for the numbers that run a site, the Aftersales Manager Playbook for the department where the profit is quietly made or lost, the Used Car Manager Playbook for the fastest-moving P&L in the business, the LBDM Field Operator Playbook for self-generated field business, and Customer Excellence for the basics that decide everything.
